I am interested in what happens between established fields.

I’m Xiao Chen, an interdisciplinary designer and researcher trained in jewellery and fashion, now studying Design Futures at the Royal College of Art.

My work moves between visual communication, service design, games and immersive experience, creative technology and material practice. I use participant research, systems mapping and speculative methods to understand a question; then translate it through art direction, photography, moving image, physical making, Arduino, TouchDesigner, Unreal Engine and prototypes.

I am drawn to questions around bodies and technology, cultural memory, access, social systems and how emerging futures become personally felt.
