WATER / DATA / DIGITAL IDENTITY

Flowing
Identities

01 / STARTING POINT

If matter never disappears but only changes form, what happens to our identities when they become data?

Flowing Identities uses water as a metaphor and material system for digital identity. Evaporation, condensation, residue and circulation become ways to think about how data leaves the body, travels through networks, recombines and persists beyond our control.

02 / CONCEPTUAL SYSTEM

Matter changes state. Data changes form. Neither simply disappears.

01

Water

A physical substance that circulates, evaporates, condenses and depends on environmental conditions.

02

Data

Identity leaves the body, enters infrastructures and becomes stored, transmitted and interpreted.

03

Residue

What remains becomes trace, archive and evidence—available for recombination beyond its origin.

Deletion is not disappearance. The self may persist as residue, recombination and patterns interpreted by systems we cannot fully see.

Digital bodies visualised as unstable fields of data
03 / VISUAL DEVELOPMENT

Flow becomes a visual language across material, screen and body.

Residue as a metaphor for persistent digital identity
RESIDUE

Sediment, glitches and translucent layers make persistence visible without treating identity as a fixed portrait.

TouchDesigner experiments with flowing identity
LIVE IMAGE

TouchDesigner translates circulation and recording into responsive image behaviour.

Moving-image editing process
TEMPORAL EDITING

Layered footage and sound move between bodily presence, transmission and afterimage.

04 / OUTCOME

Obsolete and contemporary screens hold one unstable digital body.

Final Flowing Identities multi-screen installation

A moving-image installation turns water experiments, live visual processing and data textures into a meditation on persistence and digital selfhood.
